    • Ashley Adrian is the Inter-regional Coordinator for the International Center for Alcohol Policies (ICAP). Read complete bio
    • Ashley joined ICAP as an intern in January 2009 and later served as Research Assistant prior to becoming Inter-regional Coordinator in 2011.  Ashley works on coordination and outreach efforts related to ICAP's work on the WHO Global Strategy to Reduce the Harmful Use of Alcohol.

      Ashley holds a master's degree in Eurasian, Russian and East European studies from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service, and a bachelor's degree in International Affairs from the University of Georgia.

    • Ashley Armenakis McClendon
    • Director of Finance and Human Resources
    • Ashley McClendon is the Director of Finance and Human Resources for the International Center for Alcohol Policies (ICAP). Read complete bio
    • Ms. McClendon joined ICAP in 1999 and is responsible for all financial and human resources functions.  She also serves as Assistant Secretary to the ICAP Board of Directors.

      She has over 15 years of professional experience and has worked as an accountant in the legal, banking, and telecommunications fields.

      A native of Alabama, Ms. McClendon earned a degree in Accounting from Auburn University.  She lives in Northern Virginia with her husband and daughter.

    • Brett Bivans
    • Vice President
    • Brett Bivans is Vice President of the International Center for Alcohol Policies (ICAP). Read complete bio
    • He joined ICAP as Director of Partnership Development in February 2004. Brett handles industry related issues, such as corporate social responsibility, self-regulation, road safety, retail, and responsible hospitality. He is also responsible for outreach in the Asia-Pacific and Africa regions.

      Prior to joining ICAP, Mr. Bivans was the first Manager of the Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP) initiated by the World Bank and hosted by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in Geneva, Switzerland. GRSP benchmarks road safety good practice and the positive impact of partnerships for both business and social development. Between 1996 and 1999, he was part of the World Bank’s Finance and Private Sector Development team which developed corporate social responsibility and partnership initiatives.

      Mr. Bivans holds masters degrees in Philosophy and Law from The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC.

    • Bryony Addis-Jones is the Head of Research Information for the Centre for information on Beverage Alcohol (CBA) and the International Center for Alcohol Policies (ICAP). Read complete bio
    • She joined CBA in 2003 and has responsibility for CBA's Research services including document supply, the weekly research alert, and monthly global research publication.  She has a degree in Classics from Manchester University and a post-graduate MA in Library information Management.  Previous experience includes nine years in the information services department of a human rights organization and three years managing the library and helping to develop a new website at the Royal College of Midwives.

      She lives in London and plays rugby for London Welsh.

    • Corinne Newhart is the Research Assistant for the International Center for Alcohol Policies (ICAP). Read complete bio
    • Corinne joined ICAP in January 2011 and previously served as an intern for the Arlington County Department of Human Services, where she conducted research and participated in the planning of a social marketing campaign aimed at reducing sexually transmitted infections in Arlington teens.  She also worked as a research assistant at the Cornell University Law School, where she was involved in data analysis for the Cornell e-Rulemaking Initiative.

      Corinne holds a master's degree in Public Health from The George Washington University, and a bachelor's degree in Biology and Society from Cornell University.

    • Erica Moody is a Writer and Researcher for the International Center for Alcohol Policies (ICAP). Read complete bio
    • Erica is responsible for ICAP’s Global Actions on Harmful Drinking newsletter, website and social media outreach. Prior to joining ICAP in May 2011, she worked in entertainment news as a Reporter for Bisnow Media and in health policy and senior affairs as Editor for CD Publications’ web-based newsletters and grants funding directories.

      Erica was born and raised in Louisiana. She holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing from Antioch University Los Angeles and a Bachelors degree in English from Tulane University (cum laude). She has also studied English Literature at Trinity College Dublin and New York University.

    • Guillermo Cantor, Ph.D.
    • Science and Policy Analyst
    • Guillermo Cantor is the Science and Policy Analyst for the International Center for Alcohol Policies (ICAP). Read complete bio
    • His work focuses on the implementation of ICAP’s scientific programs as well as the development of new areas of science-based policy research. He is currently managing a 10-country research project on noncommercial alcohol involving scientists on four continents.

      Dr. Cantor has extensive research experience both in Latin America and the United States. Prior to joining ICAP in June 2011, he worked for Argentina’s National Council for Scientific and Technical Research. He also served as a professor at the National University of Rosario and the National University of Entre Rios.

      Throughout his career, Dr. Cantor received multiple distinctions including a Fulbright Grant, the Urban Institute’s Emerging Scholar Award, and the International Development Research Center’s Research Award.

    • Kate Gorman is the Senior Writer for the International Center for Alcohol Policies (ICAP). Read complete bio
    • Before joining ICAP in 2010, Kate worked as a station manager in public access television and integrated the station's television production with web-based distribution. She has also wrote and edited a number of film and video productions.

      Kate holds a master's degree in Media Production from Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia and a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

    • Ken Williams serves as Senior Advisor for Africa for the International Center for Alcohol Policies (ICAP). Read complete bio
    • Ken joined ICAP in 2011 and supports work in policy development, information sharing, drink driving prevention, industry self-regulation, and noncommercial alcohol for ICAP’s Africa portfolio. Prior to joining ICAP, Ken served as Senior Technical Advisor for the AED Center for Leadership Development for leadership programs funded by major foundations, including the New Voices National Fellowship. He has also served as National Field Director for the federal Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) National Resource Center.

      Ken holds Masters degrees in Philosophy and Religious Studies from the Catholic University of America, and is an avid student of comparative religion and emerging Web 2.0 technologies. He also holds a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Georgetown University.

    • Marcus Grant

    • Marcus Grant is President of the International Center for Alcohol Policies (ICAP). Read complete bio
    • He has worked in the alcohol field for nearly 30 years, first as director of a UK-based NGO, Alcohol Education Center, which provided national coordination of post-qualification training on alcohol problems for health and social service staff, then for the World Health Organization (WHO), where he was responsible for global activities on the prevention of alcohol and drug abuse. He resigned from WHO in 1994 to set up ICAP.

      Mr. Grant was born in Scotland and went to school in Inverness, Edinburgh, and Paris and to University at Pembroke College, Cambridge, where he read English Literature. Mr. Grant has written a variety of film and television scripts and has published works of fiction.

    • Marjana Martinic, Ph.D.

    • Marjana Martinic is Senior Vice President of the International Center for Alcohol Policies (ICAP). Read complete bio
    • Her work focuses on the development of policy approaches at the global, regional and national levels. She also has primary responsibility for ICAP’s scientific technical programs and research activities, the development of relationships with the scientific and public health communities, as well as for regional work in Europe and Latin America.

      Marjana has published extensively on alcohol policy. She currently serves as scientific advisor to the European Commission, as part of the Alcohol and Health Forum’s Science Group.

      Prior to joining ICAP in 1996, she was a Fellow at the University of Virginia School of Medicine and at the U.S. National Institutes of Health where her work focused on the early development of the central nervous system, particularly the development of neural connections.

      Marjana received her degree in Biology from Harvard University and her doctorate in Neuroscience from Northwestern University.

      A German national, she was raised in Yugoslavia, Libya, Germany, the UK and Argentina. She speaks German, Spanish, French and Serbo-Croat fluently.

    • Before joining CBA in 2008, Mat worked in the retail sector in both independent and chain bookstores, and also ran his own specialist bookstore online.  Mat holds a bachelor's degree in English & Social Studies from Swansea Metropolitan University, and is currently seeking a master's degree in Library & Information Studies from Aberystwyth University.

    • Matthew is responsible for editing and coordinating ICAP’s scientific publications. Before joining ICAP in October 2011, Matthew worked in Montreal as an English editor for the DVD subtitling unit of Deluxe Digital Studios, and as a copy editor and script writer of educational materials for Stratford Career Institute.

      Matthew holds a master’s degree in Musicology from McGill University and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Cornell University.

    • Shushanna Mignott is the Program Coordinator at the International Center for Alcohol Policies (ICAP).Read complete bio
    • Shushanna joined ICAP in February 2010 and works on the implementation of the Global Actions on Harmful Drinking initiatives.

      Prior to joining ICAP, Ms. Mignott worked with the Global Health Council, National Minority AIDS Council, American Psychology Association and completed a fellowship at the Pan American Health Organization. Ms. Mignott holds a masters degree in Public Health with a focus on International Health Promotion from George Washington University.

    • Solomon joined ICAP in July 2010 and is responsible for managing the finances associated with Global Actions. 

      Prior to working at ICAP, Solomon has worked in the accounting field for more than 4 years. He gained nonprofit accounting experience while working for several nonprofits in the District of Columbia. Solomon likes to volunteer his free time working with young adults and nonprofits in the District of Columbia.

      Solomon holds a bachelor’s degree in Business & Marketing from the University of South Florida and is actively pursuing a master’s degree.

    • Susan Biemsderfer is the Director of Communications at the International Center for Alcohol Policies (ICAP). Read complete bio
    • As Director of Communications, Susan B has primary responsibility for ICAP’s internal and external communications functions, from media outreach and response to online communications and the promotion of ICAP’s broad range of communications, including books, reports, tool kits, training, and an array of online resources. After serving as a consultant to ICAP for more than a decade, she joined the staff in 2010.

      Susan’s career began as a television news writer/researcher, producer and on-air reporter for the NBC affiliate in Minneapolis Minnesota. She also worked extensively as a print journalist, and as a political analyst for several education and policy and organizations.

      Susan studied politics, philosophy, and economics at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar after earning an undergraduate degree with a double major (English/Political Science) at the University of Denver (summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa). She also holds a law degree.

    • Ms. Carroll joined ICAP in 2005 and focuses on creating and maintaining internal and external administrative systems and supporting the activities of the organization. She is also responsible for maintaining, updating and editing the ICAP website and database.

      Her qualifications and experience includes over 12 years as a professional business administrator.

      She is a native Washingtonian and resides here with her husband, son and daughter.
