    • Marcus Grant
    • President
    • Marcus Grant is President of the International Center for Alcohol Policies (ICAP). Read complete bio
    • He has worked in the alcohol field for nearly 30 years, first as director of a UK-based NGO, Alcohol Education Center, which provided national coordination of post-qualification training on alcohol problems for health and social service staff, then for the World Health Organization (WHO), where he was responsible for global activities on the prevention of alcohol and drug abuse. He resigned from WHO in 1994 to set up ICAP.

      Mr. Grant was born in Scotland and went to school in Inverness, Edinburgh, and Paris and to University at Pembroke College, Cambridge, where he read English Literature. Mr. Grant has written a variety of film and television scripts and has published works of fiction.

    • Marjana Martinic, Ph.D.

    • Marjana Martinic is Senior Vice President of the International Center for Alcohol Policies (ICAP). Read complete bio
    • Her work at ICAP focuses on the development of policy approaches and tools for implementation at the global, regional and national levels. She also has primary responsibility for ICAP’s scientific technical programs and research activities, the development of ICAP’s relationships with the scientific and public health communities, as well as for regional work in Europe and Latin America.

      Dr. Martinic has published extensively on alcohol policy. She currently serves as scientific advisor to the European Commission, as part of the Alcohol and Health Forum’s Science Group.

      Prior to joining ICAP in 1996, Dr. Martinic was Research Fellow at the University of Virginia School of Medicine and subsequently as an Intramural Fellow at the U.S. National Institutes of Health. Her work focused on the early development of the central nervous system, particularly the development of neural connections.

      Dr. Martinic received her degree in Biology from Harvard University and her doctorate in Neuroscience from Northwestern University.

      A German national, Dr. Martinic was raised in Yugoslavia, Libya, Germany, the UK and Argentina. She speaks German, Spanish, French and Serbo-Croat fluently.

    • Brett Bivans is Vice President of the International Center for Alcohol Policies (ICAP).Read complete bio
    • He joined ICAP as Director of Partnership Development in February 2004. Brett handles industry related issues, such as corporate social responsibility, self-regulation, road safety, retail, and responsible hospitality. He is also responsible for outreach in the Asia-Pacific and Africa regions.

      Prior to joining ICAP, Mr. Bivans was the first Manager of the Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP) initiated by the World Bank and hosted by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in Geneva, Switzerland. GRSP benchmarks road safety good practice and the positive impact of partnerships for both business and social development. Between 1996 and 1999, he was part of the World Bank’s Finance and Private Sector Development team which developed corporate social responsibility and partnership initiatives.

      Mr. Bivans holds masters degrees in Philosophy and Law from The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC.

    • Ashley McClendon is Director of Administration for the International Center for Alcohol Policies (ICAP). Read complete bio
    • Ms. McClendon joined ICAP in 1999 and is responsible for all financial and human resources functions. She also serves as Assistant Secretary to the ICAP Board of Directors.

      She has 15 years of professional experience and has worked as an accountant in the legal, banking, and telecommunications fields.

      A native of Alabama, Ms. McClendon earned a degree in Accounting from Auburn University. She lives in Northern Virginia with her husband and daughter.

    • Susan Biemsderfer is the Head of Communications at the International Center for Alcohol Policies (ICAP).Read complete bio
    • As Head of Communications, Susan B has primary responsibility for ICAP’s internal and external communications functions, from media outreach and response to online communications and the promotion of ICAP’s broad range of communications, including books, reports, tool kits, training, and an array of online resources. After serving as a consultant to ICAP for more than a decade, she joined the staff in 2010.

      Susan’s career began as a television news writer/researcher, producer and on-air reporter for the NBC affiliate in Minneapolis Minnesota. She also worked extensively as a print journalist, and as a political analyst for several education and policy and organizations.

      Susan studied politics, philosophy, and economics at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar after earning an undergraduate degree with a double major (English/Political Science) at the University of Denver (summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa). She also holds a law degree.

    • Daniya Tamendarova is the Head of Publications at the International Center for Alcohol Policies (ICAP). Read complete bio
    • Her work at ICAP has focused on policy development, targeted interventions, noncommercial alcohol, and young people. Daniya is broadly responsible for all ICAP publications and has a specialty certificate in technical editing.

      Prior to joining ICAP in 2003, Daniya was a researcher for the U.S. Institute of Peace, Cato Institute, and the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York, NY. She holds a graduate degree in German and European Studies from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and an undergraduate degree in Political Science, International Relations, and History from the College of St. Elizabeth.

    • Shushanna Mignott is the Program Coordinator at the International Center for Alcohol Policies (ICAP). Read complete bio
    • Shushanna joined ICAP in February 2010 and works on the implementation of the Global Actions on Harmful Drinking initiatives.

      Prior to joining ICAP, Ms. Mignott worked with the Global Health Council, National Minority AIDS Council, American Psychology Association and completed a fellowship at the Pan American Health Organization.  Ms. Mignott holds a masters degree in Public Health with a focus on International Health Promotion from George Washington University.

    • Avery Woods is the Research Assistant for the International Center for Alcohol Policies (ICAP). Read complete bio
    • Prior to joining ICAP in 2009, Avery served as a research assistant at The Center for Science in the Public Interest where she focused on chronic diseases and nutrition policy.  She also has experience working and researching in the fields of women's health, family policy and HIV/AIDS.

      Avery holds a master's degree in Public Affairs from the LBJ School at the University of Texas and a bachelor's degree in Political Science from Colgate University.

    • Jason joined ICAP in 2010 and previously served as a research assistant at the Justice at Stake Campaign, a non-profit organization dedicated to fairness in the courts.  His areas of focus included federal issues such as detainee treatment at Guantanamo Bay and the status of our nations immigration courts.  He has also previously worked for U.S. Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL).

      Jason received his bachelor's degree in Corporate Communications from Elon University and is currently seeking a master's degree from the George Washington University.

    • Before joining ICAP in 2010, Kate worked as a station manager in public access television and integrated the station's television production with web-based distribution.  She has also produced and edited a number of film and video productions.

      Kate holds a master's degree in Media Production from Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia and a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

    • Tinisha Carroll is the Office Administrator for the International Center for Alcohol Policies (ICAP). Read complete bio
    • Ms. Carroll joined ICAP in 2005 and focuses on creating and maintaining internal and external administrative systems and supporting the activities of the organization. She is also responsible for maintaining, updating and editing the ICAP website and database.

      Her qualifications and experience includes 12 years as a professional business administrator.

      She is a native Washingtonian and resides here with her husband, son and daughter.
