Her work at ICAP focuses on the development of policy approaches and tools for implementation at the global, regional and national levels. She also has primary responsibility for ICAP’s scientific technical programs and research activities, the development of ICAP’s relationships with the scientific and public health communities, as well as for regional work in Europe and Latin America.
Dr. Martinic has published extensively on alcohol policy. She currently serves as scientific advisor to the European Commission, as part of the Alcohol and Health Forum’s Science Group.
Prior to joining ICAP in 1996, Dr. Martinic was Research Fellow at the University of Virginia School of Medicine and subsequently as an Intramural Fellow at the U.S. National Institutes of Health. Her work focused on the early development of the central nervous system, particularly the development of neural connections.
Dr. Martinic received her degree in Biology from Harvard University and her doctorate in Neuroscience from Northwestern University.
A German national, Dr. Martinic was raised in Yugoslavia, Libya, Germany, the UK and Argentina. She speaks German, Spanish, French and Serbo-Croat fluently.
