Production and Consumption Data
|
In May 2005 the World Health Assembly adopted a resolution on public health problems caused by harmful use of alcohol. The World Health Assembly resolution also requested the Director-General to strengthen global and regional information systems through further collection and analysis of data on alcohol consumption.
At the March 2006 consultations with members of the beverage alcohol industry, the issue of data collection on alcohol production and consumption was identified as an appropriate area for separate meetings. Open informal consultations on data collection were held in February and April 2008 with industry members and WHO. It was agreed that ICAP would place in the public domain commercially available data on alcohol production and consumption.
The International Wine and Spirit Record (IWSR) and Canadean have provided ICAP with country-by-country data. The IWSR presents consumption data by alcohol strength for the period 2000-2007.
